A black course: the steepest hill and the biggest delays, with ice and jumps where they hurt.
Giant slalom has rounder, longer turns through two-pole gates with panels. The fast line is round and early: finish each turn above the gate, change edges just after it, and the skis kick you into the next one.
How to ski Headwall
- Start to split 1 (gates 1–5)
- A delay at gate 4.
- Split 1 to split 2 (gates 6–10)
- Ice between gates 6 and 7, a delay at gate 9.
- Split 2 to split 3 (gates 11–15)
- Ice between gates 11 and 12, ice between gates 15 and 16.
- Split 3 to the finish (gates 16–19)
- Round, even turns.
- Delays: the gate sits far to the side, so turn early and high to carry your speed round.
- Ice: finish the turn before it and glide across flat.
The Course Setter skis it in 34.59 s, topping 64 mph (103 km/h).
