Downhill in CarveMania

In CarveMania, downhill is tucks and jumps: tuck the straights, let go of the tuck before a jump and tuck again just before the lip to stay low and land sooner. The Course Setter tops 96 mph on Treeline.

What is downhill?

Downhill is the fastest and longest event in alpine ski racing: a single run down a long course with few turns, big jumps and long gliding sections, raced in a tuck. The classic courses, like Kitzbühel’s Streif and Wengen’s Lauberhorn, are among the most famous and most feared in sport.

It’s the one event with training runs: racers ski the course in the days before the race to learn the jumps and the line at speed.

Downhill rules

How fast do downhill skiers go?

Downhill racers average about 60 mph (96 km/h) over a men’s World Cup course, and 80 mph (130 km/h) is common at the fast points; on the fastest courses they pass 90 mph. The fastest speed recorded in a World Cup downhill is 100.6 mph (161.9 km/h), by France’s Johan Clarey at Wengen in 2013.
